Container throughput at North China’s Tianjin Port has reached more than 20 million TEU this year, a port record.

State media Xinhua reported that the record annual container throughput indicates the thriving container business in the region with Tianjin Port Group.

The Port of Tianjin is the largest port in Northern China and main maritime gateway to the country’s capital.

The port also made PTI’s recent list of ‘Top 10 Ports in China 2021’. Handling a total of 17,600,000 TEU in the first 10 months of 2021, the port saw the second-largest increase in containers through this period in the whole of China.

The port is just is just one of the complex in the country that is heavily dedicated to making operations greener.

In August this year, the Tianjin Port Group announced it is to build the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) zero-carbon terminal. The terminal is set to be located in Section C of the port and zero emissions is meant to be achieved through the construction of a green energy supply.
