COSCO SHIPPING has announced a new service route from Beibu Gulf Port to the North America West Coast.

The opening of this route marks the first direct intercontinental shipping route that connects the provinces and cities along the New Western Land-sea Trade Corridor with North America, creating a new trade channel between ASEAN and North America via Beibu Gulf.

The new service comes at a time when container flows are shifting from the US West Coast to the US East Coast.

The announcement was made following the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation and 2022 Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port Cooperation Forum on 8 July.

The events were held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in a hybrid online and offline format.

Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Wan Min was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Forum and delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘Promoting Economic Cooperation and Development and Working Together for Shared Benefit Opportunities toward a Better Future for the Pan-Beibu Gulf Region.’

Last month COSCO SHIPPING SPE. signed an agreement to enter the blockchain-based Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN).

Beibu Gulf Port enjoyed a major surge on container throughput for 2021, processing more than 6 million TEU for the year.
