Contship Italia’s premier gateway port La Spezia Container Terminal in Italy has handled its 1 millionth TEU after announcing plans to increase container handling further through a tour of Asia.

The terminal operator reached the milestone on September 30, 2017, while servicing the Mediterranean Shipping Company ship MSC Beatrice on the Fornelli East quay.

Roberto Scotto, Customer Service Director for LSCT said: “This is further evidence of the capability of La Spezia Container Terminal.

“We have seen growth this year on both imports and exports and this demonstrates we are fully supporting the Italian customers and their supply-chain needs, as well as providing and effective and efficient alternative gateway for southern Europe.

“We are really working hard to bring the ship to the factory.”

Contship’s senior management is getting ready to visit key cities in China – Dalian, Shanghai and Shenzhen to promote La Spezia Homeport as the gateway to Italy and the markets of South and Central Europe from October 23 to 27, 2017.

They will conclude their tour with a visit to Taiwan.

The primary aim of the tour in October is to engage with major stakeholders in Chinese and Taiwanese cargo and supply-chain hubs, hosting various presentations and networking events in three cities, to promote the benefits of La Spezia Homeport and Contship’s uniquely integrated “port-to-door” offer.

Peter Hill, Commercial Director at Contship Italia Group, who is leading the delegation, said: “This is the right time for a regional tour of crucial cargo hubs in Asia, which is an important market for Contship.

“It will give us the opportunity to meet and engage with stakeholders in the industry and solidify new relationships in this important trade-lane.”

Cecilia Eckelmann-Battistello, Contship Italia’s Group President added: “Building business relationships in China and Taiwan is very important for Contship Italia as we aim to be closer to our valued clients and partners in a region which is today, the driver of world trade.

“In the past few years, Contship Italia has evolved with a range of fully integrated products including innovative and more efficient processes such as the customs fast-corridors and pre-clearing options, which have contributed to our competitiveness as a container logistics operator in the regional as well as global arena.”
