CMA CGM Launch Container Weighing Portal

In a bid to enable customers to compile and share information and ultimately share it with the shipping company, CMA CGM has launched an electronic portal via its website to assist with the new SOLAS amendment and the verification, according to JOC.com.

This news follows a recent video by Maersk, which explains, using 2D animation, the process of verifying the gross mass of containers to ensure that shippers are able to comply with the new rule.

A 3-month delay was recently proposed by the International Maritime Organisation, in order to provide shippers with extra time to ensure they are ready to meet the requirements.

However, despite this proposal, confusion is still prevalent, after a recent survey was carried out by Drewry Maritime Research, with delays expected after the legislation comes into force on July 1, 2016.

It was recently announced that INTTRA will be Kuehne + Nagel’s provider for e-container weighing services, in a bid to assist with VGM compliance.

Hirschmann MSC is the latest company to offer a new solution for weighing containers with its magnetic sensor, which indirectly measures the force they apply to the twistlock during loading.
