CMA CGM moves to Port of Augusta

The CMA CGM Group has announced it will move its activity from the terminal in Catania, Italy to the nearby Port of Augusta.

The local port authority (covering Catania, Augusta and Pozallo) has decided to terminate container activity at the Catania terminal and relocate all activity for all container carriers to their terminal at Augusta.

The move will be effective at the end of March 2024.

The final call on the TYRREX service in Catania is planned for 14 March 2024.

Future calls will be in Augusta, which is located about 35 kilometres South of Catania on the motorway axis connecting the main regional routes.

The new container terminal will reportedly offer increased capacity and improved marine access and upgraded yard equipment, including an expanded reefer plug capacity.

Last week, the CMA CGM Group reviewed the situation in the Southern Area of the Red Sea, and the changing conditions allow it to continue transit on a case-by-case basis.

More recently, the CMA CGM Group successfully finalised the 100 per cent purchase of Bolloré Logistics.
