The CMA CGM Group has announced the launch of new rail services connecting the ports of Alexandria and Ain Sokhna to the October Dry Port (ODP).
According to the group, these rail solutions will offer a number of benefits, including short and reliable intermodal transit time of just one day to the ODP ramp.
ODP is an important hub for the region and the first inland dry port in Egypt.
The port looks to become the new central distribution point for freight forwarders, Egyptian importers and exporters, and shipping lines – with an annual throughput expected to reach up to 450,000 TEU.
The Egyptian port is reached from Shanghai via Alexandria in 40 days, Nhava Sheva 18 days, Hamburg 19 days, Barcelona 12 days, New York 35 days.
ODP is an ideal location for customers looking to export from Ain Sokhna to Asia’s main ports within 28 days.
In addition to the convenience of the rail services, CMA CGM said customers will also benefit from a seamless customer experience, with customs clearance available at the October Dry Port ramp.
The move seeks solutions for decarbonising the “blue economy” in mainland France and its overseas territories and will devolve around €200 million ($218 million) at all companies, announced in November 2022.
