ClassNK unveils shipping E-Learning courses

Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) has implemented E-Learning courses offered through its training and education service, ClassNK Academy.

ClassNK noted that the courses are intended to provide basic and technical information for professionals and stakeholders in the shipping and shipbuilding sectors.

The initiative reportedly starts with four main courses. The introductory course provides a wide overview of the shipping and shipbuilding industries that is appropriate for novices in the industry.

This is then followed by three specialised courses: Stability, which covers buoyancy principles and both intact and damaged stability; Propulsive Performance, which covers the fundamentals of propeller operation, hull form impact, and efficiency enhancements; and Structure and Strength, which discusses load considerations and hull integrity assessments.

Upon completion of the courses, participants get a certificate recognising their accomplishment and willingness to apply their new knowledge. This technology also allows organisations to track and analyse their employees’ learning development.

In September 2023, Fukui Seisakusho Co., Ltd. (FUKUI) and ClassNK inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct a cooperative study on a safety release valve for a cargo tank of liquefied hydrogen carriers.

Two months later, ClassNK granted approval in principle (AiP) to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) for the design of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for ammonia, which MOL and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. collaboratively designed.
