Atlas Air acquires MSC Boeing Freighter

Atlas Air, Inc., a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc., has taken delivery of a Boeing 777-200 Freighter, which it will operate for its customer Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

Under the previously announced long-term aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) deal, Atlas Air will operate four 777 aircraft for MSC on a global basis, allowing MSC to increase its reach and capacity for its clients.

This is the fourth 777 to enter service; the first was delivered in November 2022, while the second and third were delivered in July and November 2023, respectively.

This aircraft, which begins operations today, will supplement MSC Air Cargo’s current weekly service, which includes a route from Hong Kong (HKG) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW).

Anders Matikka, Vice President, Air Cargo, MSC, said: “This latest 777 Freighter delivery represents a pivotal moment and significant milestone for our company as it marks the completion of our first set of aircrafts in partnership with Atlas Air. This new and enhanced fleet will empower us to elevate our offering, ensuring enhanced support for our valued clients and a stronger presence in the market.”

Richard Broekman, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Sustainability, Atlas Air Worldwide, stated: “The delivery of this fourth 777 aircraft that we are operating for MSC marks an incredibly exciting milestone of our long-term strategic partnership.

“Since launching our first 777 over one year ago, we have valued our ongoing collaboration with MSC as they continue to grow their Air Cargo solution for their customers. We look forward to continuing to build upon our strategic partnership.”

In August 2023, MSC acquired a majority stake in AlisCargo Airlines with the transaction being the first step towards MSC acquiring 100 per cent of AlisCargo Airlines.

In December 2023, Atlas Air, Inc. received a Boeing 777 Freighter, which it will operate on behalf of its customer, MSC SA.
