Arkas invests $240 million in eco-designed container vessels

Turkish shipping line, Arkas, has announced it is investing $240 million to add four next-generation eco-designed container vessels to its fleet.

As a result, this will bring Arkas’ total number of vessels to 53 and increase the TEU capacity to over 100,000.

The company reportedly invested $240 million to order four next-generation ecologically efficient vessels.

The vessels, each capable of transporting 4,300 TEU, will be built by China’s Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard (GWS), which is known for its outstanding manufacturing quality and will be the Arkas fleet’s largest capacity vessels.

Arkas’ container fleet will be increased to 53 vessels and its capacity to 103,630 TEU as a result of this investment, renewing and growing the fleet concurrently.

Arkas Line will operate the vessels, which are planned to be delivered in February, April, June, and August 2028. Built as next-generation eco-design vessels, they will help Arkas’ environmental agenda by lowering carbon emissions. This will be accomplished using a fuel performance assessment system as well as expanded capacity.

Arkas Line, which now conducts weekly services in the Mediterranean, Black Sea, West, North Africa and North Europe, will expand its network with a new route to the East Coast of America.

In February, Euroseas took the delivery of the MV Tender Soul, an Eco EEDI Phase 3, 2,800 TEU feeder containership newbuilds from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. in South Korea.
