MPCC names eco-design containerships in South Korea

MPC Capital (MPCC) has recently named its two 5,500 TEU eco-design vessels at the HJ Shipbuilding & Construction shipyard in Busan, South Korea.

The vessels reportedly feature state-of-the-art specifications and an environmentally friendly design, offering a 40 per cent reduction in consumption and allowing for conversion to carbon-neutral operations based on green methanol.

This comes nine months after MPCC and INERATEC signed an agreement for the supply of synthetic Marine Diesel Oil (MDO) made from biogenic CO2 and renewable hydrogen.

The vessels are compliant with EEDI-Phase 3 and NOx Tier III standards. Upon delivery, both vessels will commence a seven-year charter with ZIM under their charter names: MV ZIM Danube and MV ZIM Ganges.

In April 2022, ZIM Integrated Shipping Services announced the charter transaction with a group of investors initiated by MPCC.

More recently, in June 2023, MPCC completed the purchase of five new eco-design vessels for a total of $136.4 million in an effort to improve the composition of its fleet.
