APMT Callao's import volumes increase by 15 per cent YoY

APM Terminals (APMT) Callao has witnessed a considerable rise in product quantities during the first half of the year, including wheat and corn, steel coils, and heavy machinery.

Since the beginning of the year, 780 vessels have called on Callao’s Multipurpose North Terminal.

APMT Callao has reportedly increased its containerised cargo operation speed by 11 per cent, allowing shipping lines to gain sailing time, and supporting cost reductions in the entire logistics chain.

Fernando Fauche, Commercial Director, APMT Callao, said: “APMT Callao remains committed to efficiency and to the development of the Callao Multipurpose North Terminal. We will continue to implement technological and operational improvements to reduce unloading times and increase our capacity to handle higher cargo volumes.

“This in line with the progress we have made in stage 3A of the Multipurpose North Terminal Modernization Project launched last year. Our goal is to continue to be a leading port in the region, providing high quality services to our customers.”

Vessels calling at APMT Callao North Terminal transport a wide range of commodities, including solid bulk commodities like wheat and corn, breakbulk building materials like steel and cement, cars, and large machinery, and sensitive goods like refrigerated freight.

During the first half of the year, APMT Callao experienced a considerable rise in wheat and maize imports, up by over 15 per cent, while steel coil imports grew by about 20 per cent.

Parts of the automotive sector, particularly heavy machinery, have increased by almost 30 per cent over the same period last year.

At the same time, as agricultural exports increase, APMT Callao is well-equipped with electrical outlets and specialist services to manage rising seasonal shipments of chilled commodities.

In March, APMT Callao announced that it was on pace to reduce emissions by 36 per cent in 2024, 55 per cent in 2030, and 100 per cent by 2040.
