APM Terminals (APMT) has announced that Julián Fernández, the current Managing Director of APMT Poti, will become the Managing Director (MD) of APMT Spanish Gateways.
Fernández will take over from Carlos Arias de Molina, appointed CEO of APMT Callao in Peru.
Igor van den Essen, Regional Managing Director, Africa and Europe at APMT, said: “I am very pleased to have Julián in his new role, where he will continue to be a crucial member of our leadership team in Europe, while bringing his valuable experience and expertise from running a terminal in Georgia now in his new exciting role in Spain.
“In his leadership roles, Julián has consistently demonstrated strategic and innovative ways of thinking and has ensured close partnerships with our people, stakeholders and communities. I am sure this will be greatly appreciated in his new market.”
According to APMT, Fernández has senior leadership expertise in business development, finance, and general management.
In 2008, he joined Maersk as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Maersk Logistics (later Damco) Brazil. In 2011, he joined APMT and advanced from Finance to Head of Business Development for Latin America, where he worked on many big port concession auctions as well as merger and acquisition initiatives.
His next position was CFO and Deputy Managing Director at APMT Poti in Georgia, before becoming MD in 2022.
Fernández will undertake his new responsibilities in Spain on 1 April 2024, when Carlos Arias will formally take over as CEO of APMT Callao.
