APMT Algeciras breaks productivity record

APM Terminals (APMT) Algeciras, Spain has achieved a new productivity milestone by concluding operations in 201.63 Productive Moves Per Hour (PMPH).

The feat establishes a new record for the terminal.

The PMPH measure is the generally accepted measure of the productivity of quay cranes at a container terminal.

This achievement was made possible by the use of eight operating ship-to-shore (STS) cranes during a port stay of 14.51 hours, compared to the target of 18.52. This was also the highest productivity recorded at APM Terminals Algeciras for any vessel or service.

The vessel on which the record operations were performed, MAYVIEW MAERSK, operates on Maersk’s Asia-Europe (AE) network, which is one of the world’s busiest trade lanes.

The Port of Algeciras signed off 2022 by handling over 100 million tonnes for a seventh consecutive year, with 108 million tonnes of total throughput.

Container throughput, however, dropped by 0.7 per cent from 2021 having almost touched 4.8 million TEU.
