Antwerp Port CEO Eddy Bruyninckx has been awarded the title of Baron by H.M king of Belgium on Belgium’s national day, July 21, 2016, at the age of 65 after serving as the CEO of Antwerp Port Authority for 25 years. and has been awarded the title of Baron by H.M king of Belgium on Belgium’s national day, July 21, 2016, at the age of 65.
The title has been awarded due to his notable contribution in his sector, which includes keeping the port at its number two position in Europe and in the top 15 in the world. He is due to retire at the end of 2016this year.

Marc van Peel, Chairman of the Antwerp Port Authority chairman, Marc van Peel, said: “Eddy Bruyninckx has performed countless valuable services for the port over the 25 years that he has been in charge. Under his direction, the port has developed a very strong performance. This resulted last year in a record freight volume of more than 208 million tonnes, and this year to the port is on the way to a new record.,
“In the industrial sector, too, the port landscape has undergone great changes, [and] witness[ed] the numerous large investments in the chemical and petrochemical cluster and the strong growth in [the] handling of liquid bulk.
“In the container sector, Antwerp has become the undisputed No° 2 in Europe, with a volume of well over 9 million TEU last year. But as CEO Eddy Bruyninckx will give credit first and foremost to the 150,000 people who work directly or indirectly for the Pport of Antwerp.,”
Mr van Peel concluded: “As CEO he has demonstrated that he is able to build bridges. As such this title of nobility is justified recognition for his work.,”
Earlier Iin early July , of 2016, Eddy Bruyninckx restored the Pport of Antwerp’s ties with Iran, who has a strong relationship previousior to the trade sanctions applied in 2010.
On January 1, 2017 Jacques Vandermeiren will succeed him as CEO of the Antwerp Port Authority.
