AGPL records deepest berthing with 18.2 metres draft vessel
Adani Gangavaram Port Limited (AGPL) has set a new operational record by berthing its deepest-drafted vessel to date.

The ship, carrying 177,121 metric tonnes of bauxite for Vedanta Limited, arrived with a draft of 18.2 metres, exceeding the previous record of 18.12 metres. The vessel departed following completion of cargo operations.

This demonstrates AGPL’s capability to handle large, deep-draft vessels, requiring coordinated marine infrastructure and navigational procedures involving port, pilotage, and customer teams.

AGPL coordinated with Vedanta Limited to manage berthing and cargo handling.

Efficient operations can reduce costs, improve supply chains, and lower environmental impact per tonne.

Located in Visakhapatnam on India’s east coast, AGPL serves mineral-rich and industrial regions in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

Handling larger vessels allows the port to support trade through economies of scale.

The port can accommodate various cargo types, including dry bulk, project cargo, and containerised freight.

Investments in deep-water berths, mechanised equipment, and marine safety systems support AGPL’s current and future trade needs.

Last month, Adani Gangavaram Port set a new benchmark in coastal cargo handling by loading 61,317 metric tonnes (MTs) in just 24 hours aboard the vessel MV Star Nasia for TANGEDCO.
