  • Transnet award US$30 million contract for multiple projects

AECOM Technology Corporation has been awarded a three-year contract to provide engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) and project-close-out services for South Africa’s state-owned operator Transnet.

The contract, for which AECOM will deploy teams from Africa, Australia and North America, involves as many as 15 separate infrastructure projects in regions around Cape Town, Postmasburg and Saldanha.

Each of the projects has a construction value of up to US$150 million, or a total construction value of approximately $2.2 billion. AECOM expects its combined fee for all of the projects to add up to around $30 million.

“Building on our ongoing relationship with Transnet from projects such as the proposed Durban Digout Port, our integrated team is eager to continue partnering with this key client to implement critical infrastructure improvements,” said AECOM chairman and CEO, John M. Dionisio.

The projects assigned to Aecom include the expansion of the Port of Cape Town’s container terminal, new iron ore train-loading facilities at Postmasburg and the construction of new-build port buildings.
