Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine (MHI-MME) has delivered the electro-hydraulic steering gear to be installed in what is soon to be “the world's largest 20,000 TEU mega container carrier”, according to the Japanise company.

The DFT-1150 (pictured) is the world's largest size of steering gear and will be installed in the vessel which is currently under construction at the Saijo Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding.

More than 90 ships are constructed annually by Imabari Shipbuilding Group, based in three business offices and nine shipyards concentrated in the Seto Inland Sea region.

MHI-MME has also received orders of large-size electro-hydraulic steering gears, DFT-1150, DFT-870 and DFT-760 for 20,000TEU and 14,000 TEU, which will be built at Marugame Headquarters and Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding.

Last year (October 2017), there were rumours that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was shrinking its shipbuilding business.
