Maritime equipment supplier Royal IHC will collaborate with industry leading corporations to develop a European Hyperloop initiative.

Along with Royal IHC, Steel Group Tata Steel and construction group Koninklijke BAM (BAM) are supporting the Delft-based Hardt Hyperloop initiative to develop an international standard for Hyperloop transport, and have all signed a declaration of intent.

CEO of Hardt Hyperloop, Tim Houter, said: “Together we will create a hyperloop that addresses the infrastructural challenges.

“It is a sign of confidence that the business community wishes to be so closely involved with this development.

“These companies recognise the commercial opportunities provided by the hyperloop.”

In a release from IHC, the company stated that its knowledge base on pipe handling, foundation and tunnelling systems will aid the project in developing an efficient and fast method of building the main infrastructure for the transport while minimizing the environmental impact.

Director of IHC’s Mission Equipment Nederland, Joti Hakkert, commented: “This initiative is a revolutionary technological innovation in the field of transport systems.

“IHC is consequently pleased to enter into this collaboration to help make this possible.”

In addition to investing knowledge, both Tata Steel and Royal IHC will make financial contributions to the development of the hyperloop.

Director of Tata Steel in Ijmuiden, Hans van den Berg, said: “One of the greatest challenges entails building the hyperloop tube and rails as efficiently as possible.

“We have now developed technology for this and expect both the weight and costs to be cut in half thanks to a smarter construction and more efficient production methods.

BAM have been involved in the development of the hyperloop from the outset, helping to develop the first European testing facility with Hardt.

As the initiative enters the latest phase of development, Hardt has put out an open invitation to all companies that can contribute to the technical development and implementation of the project to join.

Hyperloop technology is beginning to gain traction in the cargo shipping industry, with DP World recently partnering with Hyperloop One to develop Cargospeed — providing freight delivery services utilizing hyperloop.
