PSA Sical Post Throughput Record

PSA Sical Terminals Limited (PSA Sical), a joint venture between PSA India and Sical Logistics has achieved its highest ever monthly throughput of 50,225 TEU in March, 2016.

Mike Formoso, Managing Director of PSA India, said: “I wish to thank the management, staff and unions of PSA Sical for their huge contributions in surpassing the 50,000 TEU monthly milestone for the first time.

“This is an immense achievement given the severe capacity constraints and challenging environment PSA Sical is facing and a testament to PSA Sical’s tireless efforts to serve the trade over the past 15 years.

Chandra Bose, Chairman of V.O Chidambaranar Port Trust, said: “PSA Sical’s systematic growth to serve the increasing expectations of the Exim Trade.”

Technical Paper: Mega-Terminal Operations

Joe Villavarayar, President of Tuticorin Shipagents Association, said: “It is heartening to note that Tuticorin port container volumes have scaled a record high at 61,390 TEU for the month of March 2016.

“PSA Sical has also set a new record in handling 50,225 TEU which is highly commendable.

“I wish PSA Sical all the very best in sustaining the efficiency levels they have recently showcased despite the restrictions they operate under and sincerely hope the licensing disputes are swiftly resolved to ensure Tuticorin retains its pre-eminent position in local trade.”

Mr Johnson, Managing Director of St John’s Line, said: “The terminal has been a key facilitator of the Tuticorin trade since inception.

“PSA Sical has continued to operate at a high level of efficiency and serve the trade despite facing numerous external problems and limited infrastructure.

“We hope the legal issues facing PSA Sical will be resolved positively soon to allow the terminal to build on this throughput achievement and so facilitate the trade to even greater heights.”

Fact File: The container terminal is linked to the major trade hinterland industrial clusters and cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirupurby state by national highways and rail connections.
