Ports of Auckland Elect First Female Chairwoman

The Ports of Auckland Board has voted to appoint Liz Coutts as Chair, effective from December 7, 2015, making her the first woman to chair the Ports of Auckland Board.

Mrs Coutts said: “The company has made huge progress since I was first appointed to the board in 2010.

“Under Chief Executive Tony Gibson, barriers to the employment of women stevedores has been broken down and the company culture has changed significantly, leading to a much more diverse and productive organisation.

“Ports of Auckland staff can take pride in the fact that they have made their company the largest and most efficient port in New Zealand. The next few years will continue to be a time of significant change for the port.

“Consultation on the proposal to partially automate the container terminal will be completed in early 2016 and the ’Port Future Study’, which will determine the long-term future of the port is due out in mid-2016.”

Fact File: Mrs Coutts was first appointed a Director of Ports of Auckland in December 2010. Mrs Coutts is Chair of Oceania Healthcare, Urwin and Co and the IRD Risk and Assurance Committee.
