Porto Chibatão attains four LBS 800 from Liebherr

Brazil’s Porto Chibatão has taken delivery of four cranes from Liebherr, adding to its fleet of 16 barge-slewing operational cranes at the port.

The contract for the purchase of four cranes was signed during the Intermodal event in São Paulo in 2022. The cranes were delivered in September 2023.

The port’s static load capacity stands at 40,000 TEU, demonstrating its ability to handle substantial cargo volumes with ease, reported Liebherr.

The four LBS 800 are equipped for container handling and have a turnover of up to 35 containers per hour and can lift up to 104 tonnes.

To accommodate improved visibility during operations, the cranes were also built with a tower extension, reported the manufacturer.

Based on the latest Liebherr mobile harbour crane design, the cranes also feature an updated interior cabin and a more digital architecture overall that paves the way for partial automation and future assistance systems.

“As a leading port operator in Brazil, we are always looking for innovative solutions to improve our performance and sustainability,” said Jhony Fidelis, General Executive Director of Grupo Chibatão.

“These particular LBS 800 cranes from Liebherr are a perfect fit for our vision, as they offer high productivity and low emissions. We are proud to work with Liebherr, a company that shares our commitment to excellence and fostering environmental responsibility.”

In October 2023, GT USA’s Canaveral Cargo Terminal (CCT) won a bid to receive and assemble one of Liebherr‘s biggest movable harbour cranes in the US at its terminal.

More recently, Liebherr Container Cranes announced its partnership with Rijeka Gateway, supplying the terminal in Croatia with remote control yard cranes.
