Portbase, RheinPorts launch digital sea and inland port project

Portbase and RheinPorts, two platform operators, have come together to launch a trailblazing project that digitally integrates marine and inland port communities.

The aim is to improve data transmission between the Dutch seaports and the Rhine’s interior ports.

The Port of Rotterdam, duisport and Port of Switzerland are shareholders and champions of this initiative.

The combination of the Portbase Port Community System (PCS) and the RheinPorts RiverPorts Planning and Information System (RPIS) makes it possible to improve efficiency and transparency along the supply chains from the seaport to the hinterland.

The seamless flow of data makes it easier to optimise import and export processes, enhance planning, and simplify information distribution to stakeholders.

This reportedly reduces the complexity of data sharing along logistical chains, providing extra value to carriers, terminals, ports, and all parties involved.

The test phase represents the first actual execution of the ports’ Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 2022.

In addition to strong collaboration between ports and platform operators, logistics businesses along supply chains play an important role by connecting with the platforms, managing data interchange and adding value to the services provided.

Danser Group, a logistics firm, is a significant partner in the test phase, supporting the initial phases of the data-sharing project. Additional use cases will be created based on the expertise acquired.

The ultimate goal is to create a digital corridor. This facilitates hassle-free and secure data transmission, reduces complexity and increases efficiency for inland shipping and ports.

In March, the Port of Rotterdam declared that all import containers from Latin America arriving at the port will exclusively be released securely and reliably through the Secure Chain system.
