Port of LA Processes More Than 9.1 Million TEU

The Port of Los Angeles has processed more than 9.1 million TEU for its second consecutive year.

Despite seeing its Q2 volume drop by 3.9% in its 2018 fiscal year, and processing 723,141 TEU in June  – a dip of 1.1% compared to 2017, the port was able to mark two years of record-breaking volume.

Although 2017 was its busiest year ever, Los Angeles’ June 2018 imports increased by 2.9% with 382,964 TEU arriving at the port.

Exports also experienced a 1.4% improvement.

However, total volume in June 2018 decreased by 1.08% compared with June 2017.

Speaking about the figures, Port of LA Executive Director Gene Seroka said:  “We closed our fiscal year on June 30th with 9,169,779 million TEUs.

“The consistently high container throughput over the past 24 months speaks to our unmatched capabilities, and we are grateful to our terminals, labour force and supply chain partners for their efforts that made this milestone possible.

“Looking forward, a continued shuffling of alliance services in the San Pedro Bay, coupled with potential impacts from recently imposed tariffs, provide a level of uncertainty and potentially softened trade flows through our port during the second half of 2018.”
