The Port of Oakland has received two awards from the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) this week at the annual AAPA conference.
Each year, the AAPA Lighthouse Awards recognise the best port programmes. The American Association of Port Authorities is a trade association that focuses on seaport business, representing over 130 public port authorities in the US, Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
The AAPA Award for Overall Communications Excellence was given to the Port of Oakland for their annual staff event, State of the Port 2023, a ‘Sneak Preview,’ held on 1 February 2023.

The port has received the 2023 Environmental Award of Distinction in the Comprehensive Environmental Management Classification for its path to zero emissions.
Port of Oakland Executive Director Danny Wan, said: “I am proud of our skilled and dedicated Port staff who produce outstanding results in both the fields of Communications and Environmental Management.
“Winning awards bestowed by our peers at seaports from across the US, Canada and Latin America is a wonderful acknowledgement of the work that we do.”
One month later, the Port of Oakland received a $119 million in grant funding from the State of California as part of the Port’s Freight Infrastructure Program (PFIP).
