According to the Port of Oakland’s recent economic impact report, it has generated approximately 98,345 local jobs.
As the second largest job generator in Oakland and the fifth largest job generator in the region, the Port remains a critical source of economic opportunity and jobs in Northern California.
The port reportedly supported an increase of 14,201 jobs, which represents 14 per cent growth from the previous report conducted in 2017.
The assessment, conducted by Martin Associates, conveys that the port’s overall economic value – from business revenue, consumer spending and the total value of goods and services – tops $174 billion, which is up 24 per cent from $130 billion in 2017.

Port of Oakland Executive Director, Danny Wan, stated: “The Port of Oakland continues to be one of the region’s leading employers, creating good-paying union jobs for local residents and families. These jobs are a critical contribution to the economic vitality and growth of communities in our region.”
Port of Oakland Board President, Barbara Leslie, added: “The report confirms the port’s vital role in supporting businesses and good-paying local jobs in the region. The port continues to develop and expand economic opportunities on behalf of our community.”
In July 2023, the Port of Oakland’s loaded container volume climbed to its highest level since October 2022.
More recently, the Oakland Board of Port appointed Jahmese Myres and Stephaine Dominguez Wilson as its two new commissioners.
