Port of Oakland appoints new Government Affairs Manager

The Port of Oakland has announced the appointment of Diego González as Government Affairs Manager.

González brings legislative advocacy and policy experience to the full-time position after serving eight years as a Port Governmental Affairs Field Representative.

He most recently served in the Acting Manager position for the previous six months. He will lead the port’s governmental advocacy strategies with the port’s advocacy team, trade organisations and stakeholders.

Before the Port of Oakland, González served on the staff of former Assemblymember Rob Bonta where he worked on a wide range of policy and stakeholder engagement activities.

He has been involved in the Oakland and East Bay region’s political and governmental landscape for over 12 years.

González currently serves on the Board of the Alameda Chamber and Economic Alliance and has served as a member of the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee and Vice-Chair of the California Democratic Party Chicano Latino Caucus. González holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Davis.

“The port is a major seaport gateway for California’s goods, as well as a hub for green technology innovation,” said González.

“I look forward to working with our team and our government leaders to ensure investments continue to further our commitment to zero-emissions operations while creating good-paying, local jobs for the region.”

“I have had the privilege to work with the industry’s top leaders here at the port… helping to ensure further investment in Oakland’s working waterfront and airport will be my goal for the coming years.”

Just recently, the Port of Oakland announced the appointment of Jonathan Veach as its new Chief Real Estate Officer.
