Port of Hull receives green Vertom Joy

Associated British Ports (ABP) Port of Hull has welcomed the maiden call of Vertom Joy to its King George Dock.

The general cargo carrier, which was completed in early 2023, reportedy has a state-of-the-art diesel electric propulsion system including a battery bank and is kinder to the environment.

Operating on the Europe Caribbean Line (ECL) monthly service managed by Vertraco Shipping, the vessel is being handled by Global Shipping.

The Vertom Joy has ECL cranes that can carry a combined lift weight of 150 metric tonnes, is 128.86 metres in length. She has 80 metres of unboxed cargo space and has a cargo hold of 512,000 Cubic feet.

The modern multi-purpose ship can carry various cargoes from steel, iron ore to biomass, bulks, and project cargoes.

The vessel will serve on the liner service between Belgium – UK – Guyana – Surinam – Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela.

Simon Bird, Regional Director for ABP in the Humber said: “We are delighted to welcome Vertom Joy to our port of Hull on her maiden voyage. It’s great to see new vessels come in and see how connected the Humber is globally.

“The Humber ports are a popular choice for those looking to import and export across the UK, and beyond.”

Peter Waud, Managing Director of Global Shipping Services said: “MV Vertom Joy is a great addition to an already established fleet of vessels calling in Hull providing a regular Liner Service to The Caribbean, we look forward to welcoming her not only on her maiden voyage, but for many voyages to come.”

In November 2023, ABP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) to collaborate on floating offshore wind (FLOW) related port infrastructure and to explore future commercial partnership prospects.

More recently, ABP and BW Ideol AS signed a MoU to investigate the feasibility of serialised production of concrete substructures for floating offshore wind turbine foundations.
