The world’s largest Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) vessel has made its maiden call at the Colombo East Container Terminal (CECT) of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
To mark the occasion, plaques were exchanged between the vessel’s Master, Capt. Sanjeev Bhatti, and SLPA Chairman Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe, in the presence of key SLPA and MSC Lanka officials.
Built in 2023, the MSC MARIELLA is a vessel measuring 399.9 metres long and 61.3 metres wide, with a capacity of 24,346 TEUs.
CECT, operated by SLPA, is equipped with STS gantry cranes designed for vessels of this size.
In January, SLPA terminals recorded their highest-ever throughput of 2.41 million TEUs in 2024.
Two months later, a Hapag-Lloyd delegate met with SLPA Chairman to explore business collaborations.
