The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has seen a slight increase in its container handling figures for March 2022.

MAWANI handled around 865,000 TEU last month, a year-on-year increase of 2.5 per cent.

The company also recorded an increase in a number of other operational indicators. About 503,000 TEU transshipment containers passed through MAWANI’s facilities in March, an increase of 17 per cent year-on-year.

“It is worth noting that the General Authority of Ports continues to work on developing a sustainable and prosperous maritime sector and enabling its economic and social ambitions through its corporate strategy aimed at developing a sustainable and thriving maritime sector,” said MAWANI in a statement.

The port authority also recently announced it will build two new warehousing complexes in partnership with LogiPoint at Jeddah Islamic Port.

Both parties will build the 43,000sq. meter facilities in the Bonded and Re-Export Zone, with an investment exceeding SAR150 million ($40 million).

This project represents the first phase in LogiPoint’s ongoing infrastructure development plan worth SAR400 million ($107 million) over the next two years.
