Leading shipping line Maersk has joined fellow carriers MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company and CMA CGM in becoming a key shareholder and customer of smart supply chain experts Traxens.

According to the terms of the agreement, Maersk will invest in the solution provider and receive up to 50,000 Traxens devices, matching the order placed by MSC and CMA CGM.

As PTI has reported in a previous story, Traxens offer technologies which help vessel operators and cargo owners to combat key challenges facing the shipping and logistics industries.

By combining telematics and smart data processing, the company helps shippers to manage costs and solve problems quickly, while cargo owners are able to keep track of their containers for improved levels of visibility.

Adam Gostling discusses how the industry can develop a digitally resilient supply chain in a recent Port Technology technical paper

Ingrid Uppelschoten Snelderwaard, Vice President and Head of Equipment at Maersk, said: “Creating visibility into the condition and location of containerized cargo is bringing Maersk’s strategy to offer digital end-to-end solutions to life.

“Having pioneered IoT-technology in our reefer fleet, we are excited to join Traxens and collaborate on the huge potential within connected containers.

“With this investment we look forward to working with key industry players to advance a leading solution within connected products and technologies for high value cargo, while ensuring customer choice through interoperability and open standards.”

Jacques Delort, General Manager of Traxens, also commented: “Having three of the world’s largest shipping companies now supporting us, this will help accelerate our international development and contribute to our solution becoming a global market standard for the entire supply chain.”
