MacGregor, part of Cargotec, designed the cargo system for the world’s largest containership, the MSC Gulsun, which is currently on its maiden voyage.
The vessel is 400 meters long and has a TEU capacity of more than 23,000 TEU; it is the first in a fleet of 11 megaships to be ordered by MSC, the second-largest container shipping line on Earth.
MacGregor developed the cargo system in close collaboration with MSC from the project’s inception. In a statement, it said the system fully meets the needs for maximising cargo intake.
In a statement, Magnus Sjoberg, Senior Vice President, MacGregor Cargo Handling said: “By designing an entire cargo system in close collaboration with our customers, we can respond to the market and specific requirements in the best possible way.
“As our fleet grows and technology develops, we want to make sure that our strategic investments are focused on maximizing the ship´s performance.
“Through our close cooperation with MacGregor we are able to develop new solutions that are of mutual benefit and help us to grow together,” says Giuseppe Gargiulo Head of Newbuildings, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.
