Kongsberg Gruppen, the parent company of Kongsberg Maritime, has finalized its acquisition of Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine (RRCM) after receiving regulatory approval from the European Commission.

As an official part of the Kongsberg Maritime division, RRCM will operate under the Kongsberg brand and contribute its “innovative” propulsion and handling systems to the group’s overall portfolio of marine solutions.

Kongsberg, which agreed a deal to acquire RRCM in July 2018, is now able to support the operations of more than 30,000 vessels around the world with the combined expertise of both itself and the newly acquired organization.

In addition to this, the purchase of RRCM has increased the annual turnover of Kongsberg by over US$2.55 billion.

RRCM’s experience in the maritime sector, according to a statement, is also expected to strengthen Kongsberg’s leadership in the fields of digitalization, ship intelligence and enabling technologies for autonomous vessels.
