Konecranes delivers electric crane to Ventspils Port
Stena Line Ports Ventspils JSC in Latvia has received its first electric Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Harbor Crane.

Ordered in mid-2024, it arrived in Q1 2025 and is now operational.

As part of its modernisation strategy, the port is investing in energy-efficient, low-emission equipment.

The electric ESP.7 crane operates on power from harbour mains and includes a hybrid system with a diesel generator and ultracapacitors for off-grid use.

This setup cuts emissions and reduces operating costs compared to traditional diesel models.

With a 125-tonne capacity, the crane will reportedly handle containers, general, project, and bulk cargo. It replaces a 1988 Gottwald crane from the port’s previous operator.

Mãrtiņš Ziemanis, Managing Director of Stena Line Ports Ventspils, said: “We were convinced by the performance and efficiency of the Konecranes hybrid drive system. The new crane has the flexibility we need to serve a wide variety of vessels, while also aligning with our goals for sustainable port operations.”

Hans-Jürgen Schneider, Regional Sales Manager at Konecranes Port Solutions, stated: “We’re working hard to support Stena Line Ports Ventspils in making their operations more flexible and eco-efficient.”

Last month, Fratelli Fazio Group ordered a Konecranes Gottwald ESP.9 Mobile Harbor Crane.
