King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam has recorded a 37.4 per cent increase in total container exports and imports during the first half of 2024.
The port reached 1.5 million TEU compared to 1.1 million TEU during the same period last year, 2023.
Additionally, the total number of transshipments rose by 87.9 per cent, reaching 37,806 TEU compared to 20,124 TEU last year.
The number of exported containers at the port increased by 39.1 per cent, reaching 624,710 TEU compared to 449,219 TEU during the same period in 2023.
Similarly, the number of imported containers grew by 34.7 per cent, reaching 872,445 TEU compared to 647,790 TEU last year. The total cargo throughput tonnage increased by 37.1 per cent, reaching 15. 6 million tonnes compared to 11.4 million tonnes during the same period in 2023.

General cargo reached a total of 2.6 million tonnes, marking a 49.5 per cent increase from last year when it was 1.7 tonnes.
Bulk solid cargo also saw an increase of 2.63 per cent, reaching 5.98 million tonnes compared to 5.8 million tonnes last year.
Moreover, maritime activity rose by 19.9 per cent, reaching 1,430 ships compared to 1,192 ships in 2023.
Earlier this May, DP World and the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) commenced construction of a new SAR900 million ($240 million) logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port.
More recently, MAWANI and the Port of Marseille Fos signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in several maritime-related areas.
