Kerry Logistics, a provider of supply chain services, has announced that it is introducing smart sensor technology powered by the Internet of Things (IoT) to facilitate greater visibility and security.
By leveraging real-time information available on the digital supply chain, Kerry Logistics has asserted its ability to provide useful information to international customers, allowing for “agile decision-making” and optimized supply chains.
According to a statement, the sensor-based solution uses devices which monitor cargoes throughout their journey at all times of the day.
Julian Galvis, Identec Solutions, discusses why the maritime sector should invest in IoT in a recent Port Technology technical paper
Accepted in around 190 countries, the devices transmit seamless data on the location, environment and condition of cargo – including temperature, pressure, tilt and shock – to allow more timely reactions to unforeseen circumstances.
The solution has been identified as especially useful for time and environment-sensitive shipments, with the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries able to benefit from constant personalised alerts and access to the KerrierVISION visibility portal.
In addition to this, the service is expected to add value for companies transporting premium goods, such as high-value electronic products that could be susceptible to damage.

Mathieu Biron, Managing Director for Global Freight Forwarding at Kerry Logistics, commented: “End-to-end visibility has become a prerequisite to the agility of any supply chain.
“Global supply chains are increasingly complex. Our adoption of smart sensor provides international customers with greater visibility and control, thus improving the quality of their operations, exception management, and demand planning.
“With the adaptive smart sensor solution, our customers can make immediate decisions at any stage across the supply chain based on actionable intelligence, which enables them to minimise loss and enhance efficiency.”
