Cargotec subsidiary Kalmar has been awarded a major contract by DP World to supply its flagship facility Jebel Ali Port with 125 terminal tractors and 12 empty container handlers.
The delivery of the terminal tractors will be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2014, while the empty container handlers will be shipped before the end of the year.
The orders were booked into Cargotec’s first quarter order intake.
Kalmar Sales manager, Suresh Ananthanarayan, said that the opportunity to play an important role in the expansion of Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port was an honour for Kalmar.
“Kalmar has been awarded contracts to supply a total of nineteen empty container handlers, two new version Gloria reachstackers and eight forklift trucks to be operational in the Jebel Ali Terminals,” added Ananthanarayan.
“We take great pride in such a good relationship and would like to thank DP World UAE Region's management for their confidence and trust in the Kalmar team.”
Jebel Ali Port reported record box volumes during the 2013 calendar year after handling 13.6 million TEU. The UAE port is currently undergoing further expansion, principally through Jebel Ali Container Terminal 3 (T3), which, when completed, will increase the port’s capacity to 19 million TEU.
