Cargotec subsidiary Kalmar has announced it will supply 12 new electric straddle carriers to Eurofos, France's largest container terminal.

The new electric straddle carriers will expand and partly replace the terminal's existing fleet of Kalmar and Sisu equipment, with delivery scheduled for February 2015.

Each straddle carrier is capable of stacking 40-tonne containers 3-high and complies with the latest exhaust emission regulations.

Nicolas Gauthier, CEO of Eurofos, said: “The new electric straddle carriers will help us [to] cut fuel and maintenance costs, and provide our employees with an even safer and more comfortable working environment.”

Kalmar will also supply its SmartFleet automation solution to improve port operations through real-time analysis of on-board performance data, predictive maintenance capability, and remote maintenance analysis.

Gauthier concluded: “Expanding and renewing our fleet with the best solutions available is an important part of our plans for future growth and will ensure we can continue to provide our customers with good productivity and high service quality.”
