An infographic released by the Panama Canal provides more information on its ‘Steel Giants’; the massive lock gates that will support the expanded canal’s construction.

PTI previously reported on a number of images illustrating how to change a Panama Canal lock gate.

The gates were delivered in August, 2013, in batches of four. Made in Italy, the first of the lock gates were installed in December, 2014.

Four gates will be place on the Pacific side and four on the Atlantic, providing a route that aims to connect around 1,700 ports across 160 countries around the world.

In other news, PSA Panama International Terminal (PSA Panama) has started on the expansion of its container terminal located on the west bank of the Panama Canal Pacific entrance. The expansion is targeted to be ready for operations before the end of 2016.
