An infogaphic released by Dr Theo Notteboom of Port Economics shows the percentage of port calls for Antwerp and Rotterdam since 1998, also taking into account Zeebrugge and the historic Port of Amsterdam.
In the infographic, Rotterdam is shown as having the largest number of port calls, and has in fact seen a steady rise since 1998, suggesting that container trade in the region is still booming.
Although liner services have decreased overall in 2015, it appears that Rotterdam and Antwerp are continuing to claim the majority of ship calls for each service.
