An infographic released as part of the International Transport Forum’s ‘Real Impacts of Mega-Ships’ report shows the total number of terminals that are currently owned by each carrier alliance.

PTI previously reported on an infographic showing the total number of individual and jointly-owned terminals of each global terminal operator.

In this graphic, 2M are shown to have the majority stake in ports and terminals globally, with a portfolio of around 80, and total TEU throughput of around 50 million.

It seems that mega-ships are beginning to increase their stakes in container terminals, in addition to the alliances that they have created with other shipping lines.

This could be reflected through their operating profit margin, with 2M’s Maersk Line scooping the most profit in Q1, 2015 at more than US$700 million.

Shipping losses have also dropped significantly in 2014 compared to 2013, a decrease that is made even more significant when compared to 2005.
