ICTSI's Contecon Guayaquil celebrates 135 million tonnes of cargo

Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA), International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI)’s Ecuadorian business unit, has handled 135 million tonnes of cargo since its inception at the Port of Guayaquil.

Javier Lancha, CGSA Chief Executive Officer, said: “With more than $360 million invested since the beginning of our operation, we have created a world-class terminal with vast infrastructure, technology and equipment, contributing to the economic development of the country and the generation of jobs. More than a port, we are the strategic partner that makes Ecuador go further.”

As the gateway to a significant share of Ecuador’s total market volume, CGSA is reportedly on track to transport more than 900,000 TEU by the end of 2023, an increase of more than 5 per cent over 2022.

CGSA is currently in its 16th year of operation.

Last month, ICTSI received a $750 million loan from Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) to develop its port operations across the world.

More recently, ICTSI marked a new operational milestone in Latin America with the arrival of CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt at Contecon Manzanillo S.A. (CMSA) in Mexico and Sociedad Puerto Industrial Aguadulce (SPIA) in Colombia.
