Hull Container Terminal storage capacity expanded with £4.8 million investment

ABP Humber has recently completed an extension to its Humber Container Terminal at the Port of Hull, England.

An investment of £4.8 million ($5.78 million) has enabled an additional 17,600 square-metre of heavy-duty paving to expand the terminal’s storage capacity.

The Humber Container Terminal at the Port of Hull welcomes around 12 vessels per week from Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Ghent, serving customers Samskip, iMotion, and BGF.

This adds to the 15 vessels served by the Humber Container Terminal at the Port of Immingham.

The two terminals work to ensure that the container business continues to grow in the Humber over the coming years, by offering additional storage space, state-of-the-art equipment, and access to the north of England and Midlands.

The Hull Container Terminal has developed a new gatehouse that better serves the operations team in addition to the invested additional space.

The new facility was installed to help minimise any disruption to the terminal.

Simon Bird, Director, Humber, said: “Having completed a £50 million ($60.1 million) investment at the start of 2021, the Humber’s provision to serve the container sector goes from strength to strength with these ongoing investments.

“The extra space and equipment is further evidence of the growing value the terminals have in the economic life of the North of England and the Midlands.”

Clearance works for the extension were carried out by plant and machinery company, Stoneledge, and the construction works were completed by construction company, CR Reynolds.

Attenuation tanks have been incorporated into the drainage design to avoid overloading the downstream drainage system during stormy weather.

This latest investment comes several months after ABP and Solent Stevedores announced a joint investment of £17.5 million ($18.9 million) in a new container offering for deep sea shipping lines at the Port of Southampton.
