Gangavaram Port has created a historical milestone by discharging a record of more than 100 tonnes of steam coal from the capesize vessel M.V. Cape Jupiter in 24 hours.

It was previously reported by PTI that Gangavaram Port is to be bought out by Adani Ports for around US$2.1 billion, indicating the high demand for bigger infrastructure in the Indian market.

Mr. Raj Dandu, Executive Director, Gangavaram Port Limited, while commending the team on this performance, further commented that with the commissioning of the second and new mechanised coal-handling terminal and three other general cargo berths the port infrastructure at the Gangavaram Port has become un-paralleled in capacity.

Fact File: Gangavaram Port has been developed by Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL), a special purpose company incorporated for the purpose of development and operation of the port. The port has been developed as all weather, deepest, most modern and fully mechanized port in India, capable of handling Capesize vessels. With a 21-metre water depth, it is the deepest port in India.
