India will supply four more Italgru mobile harbour cranes to Chabahar port by July this year, a Ministry of Ports official has said.

In a press briefing prior to the Maritime India Summit 2021, Sanjay Bandopadhyaya, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Waterways and Shipping (MoPWS), said two cranes are standing for loading near the port near Venice, and will reach Chabahar in Iran by the end of March. Two more will reach Iran by the end of June.

Bandopadhyaya continued that after delivery of the mobile harbour cranes, there are further plans to procure rail-mounted cranes of which bidding is ongoing.

Chabahar Port, located on Iran’s southern coast, is being jointly developed by India, Iran, and Afghanistan to boost trade in the region.

In January, India supplied a consignment of two mobile harbour cranes to the Chabahar port having a total contract value of more than $25 million.

The location of the Chabahar Port can provide connectivity between India, Iran, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, to boost trade.
