DP World and Virgin Hyperloop One have made a ground-breaking partnership to create DP World Cargospeed, a global company looking to provide freight delivery services through hyperloop technology.

Hyperloop is the latest in passenger and freight transportation, where a vehicle is propelled through a near vacuum tube at speeds two to three times faster than current high-speed rail.

Combining magnetic-levitation technology and the low pressure, near vacuum tube reduces friction on the vehicle, allowing it to achieve top speeds of up to 300 metres per second.

The technology also facilitates autonomous operations, reducing the likelihood of human errors and delayed schedules, whilst being fully electric with zero direct emissions — making it more cost-effective than operating high-speed rail transport.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, said: “The UAE is keen to be a leading player in shaping the future of the world.

“Being a pioneer means taking bold decisions that open the way for adopting innovative solutions.

“We have big aspirations because we have unlimited mindsets and the confidence that we can achieve whatever we set our minds to.”

DP World Cargospeed will be designed to transport high-priority, time-sensitive goods including fresh food, medical supplies and electronics, and will be made to connect with existing road, rail and air transport modes to expand freight moving capacity.
