DP World Southampton sets vessel container handling record

DP World Southampton has broken its all-time vessel container handling record after a ship carrying more than 9,000 TEU called at the logistics hub.

The Ocean Network Express (ONE) vessel, ONE TRUST, docked at Southampton after sailing from Pusan in South Korea last week.

This call broke the previous terminal record of 8,213 moves set by the MOL TRUTH two years ago by 13 per cent.

Steve McCrindle, Port Operations Director at Southampton, said: “Our performance on ONE TRUST was made possible by our new ten crane operating model, which enables us to concentrate more cranes on a vessel while continuing to service other customers at the same time, thereby boosting our productivity.”

Over the last 10 years DP World has invested £2 billion ($2.47 billion) in the UK. Just last year, the logistics company completed a £40 million ($49.4 million) investment at the Port of Southampton.

Over the next 10 years it has earmarked a further £1 billion ($1.2 million) of investment, including to further increase the productivity and capacity of its two UK logistics hubs at London Gateway and Southampton.

DP World Southampton’s container terminal became Britain’s first terminal to eliminate fossil diesel from its operations entirely and turn to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in 2022.

This achievement helped the Southampton container terminal have its greenest year in 2022 ever thanks to a 55 per cent decrease in net carbon emissions.
