Damen Shipyards Group, that currently operates 32 shipbuilding and repair yards, has just completed the successful delivery of a new ASD Tug 2810 to Rimorchiatori Augusta. The vessel, named Capo Boeo, is operating in the Sicilian Port of Augusta.

Rimorchiatori Augusta is a new venture for the Rimorchiatori Riuniti group and this is the first new vessel for the company, demonstrating a sincere commitment to future operations in the port.

Capo Boeo arrived in Sicily on December 2 2017 having sailed on her own keel from the Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. The client selected Damen due to their requirement for a fast vessel delivery time, which Damen promptly provided. Damen’s Vietnam yard is able to guarantee that thanks to its serial production the state-of-the-art shipyard fulfils the Damen philosophy of series production, producing 40 standard Damen tugs per year, some up to 60 metres in length.

The ASD 2810 has excellent seakeeping behaviour, superb manoeuvrability and outstanding towing characteristics. The state-of-the-art design incorporates the latest hull and skeg designs and the most recent developments in fender, fairlead and winch design.

Speaking of the delivery which took place on 7 December in the port of Augusta, Damen Sales Manager Andrea Trevisan said, “We are very proud to see this Damen tug sailing as the first vessel for the new venture Rimorchiatori Augusta and the first Damen ASD tug serving in Sicily and we wish her owners every success with their new vessel. At the same time, we extend our good wishes to the important petrochemical hub of Augusta, which is the largest in the Mediterranean Sea”.

Damen has delivered vessels to the Rimorchiatori Riuniti previously, with recent orders including two ASD Tugs 2913 and an ASD Tug 2411. Capo Boeo is the sixth Damen vessel to join the Rimorchiatori Riuniti fleet.

The procured vessel has been outfitted FiFi 1 fire-fighting equipment, upgraded towing hooks and has the necessary modifications required to meet Italian flag standards.
