CMA CGM Group’s US$1.4 billion-plus order for up to nine 22,000 TEU vessels is likely to be placed by October 2017, according to shipping analyst Lloyd's List.

The French ocean shipping company is yet to announce whether it will award a newbuilding contract to either South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) or China's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) after it was expected to announce a decision at the end of July.

With a young and diversified fleet of 445 vessels, CMA CGM serves over 420 of the world's 521 commercial ports.

The company transported 15.6 million TEUs last year through efficient ships like the 18,000 TEU CMA CGM Bougainville (pictured), the world’s biggest containership when it was built in 2015 by Samsung Heavy Industries.

The CMA CGM Group recently signed the concession agreement for the new Kribi Containers Terminal, a reference port terminal in Africa, following an international call for tenders.
