The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has rated the CMA CGM Group an A- in its 2023 climate index.
The shipping company noted that the majority of its clients and partners follow the CDP, which is reportedly one of the most important environmental performance indicators for large-scale organisations throughout the world.
This distinction recognises the group’s strong success in decarbonising its shipping business, as well as its leadership position in advancing the transition to a low-carbon transportation and logistics industry.
CMA CGM is reportedly one of the top 19 per cent of maritime firms to achieve the Carbon Disclosure Project Leadership level this year (the sector’s average rating is B).
In 2023, the CMA CGM Group accelerated its decarbonisation strategy with increased commitment:
- The ambition to align with the high trajectory of the IMO: 30 per cent by 2030 and 80 per cent by 2040.
- Substantial investments in new energy, asset modernisation and innovation.
- Reducing GHG emissions for maritime activities by 1 million tonnes between 2023 and 2022.
- The implementation of incentives for its top management to achieve the climate objectives set.
Recently, CMA CGM and Masdar signed a long-term agreement for green maritime fuels to supply CMA CGM vessels.
