China’s container throughput climbs 8.4% in 10M 2021

Container throughput in China for the first ten months of 2021 rose 8.4% compared to last year, reaching 235.48 million TEU.

The latest figures from the Ministry of Transport indicate cargo throughput throughout the country reached 12.87 billion tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%.

Through October 2021, it was revealed the country processed a total of 24.52 million TEU and 1.32 billion tonnes of cargo.

This follows the news that in the first nine months of 2021, China processed 211 million TEU, an increase of 9.5% compared to the same period in 2020.

Shanghai saw the largest amount of container throughput throughout this time, handling a total of 34.8 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 9.9%.

On the other hand, the Port of Dalian saw a steep decline in throughput with a reduction of 37.2% to only 2.69 million TEU, the lowest number reported during the period and the only port reporting a decline in throughput.
